2026 Changes
2026 Changes
Dear Junior Fair Exhibitors and Families,
We would like to share an important update regarding this year’s Junior Fair Livestock Auction and how the platform will operate.
This year, the auction will be conducted as a Premium Bid Sale, meaning that during the auction, buyers will be bidding add-on (premium) dollars only. No animals will exchange hands during the live auction itself.
However, buyers will still have the opportunity to purchase animals directly from exhibitors prior to weigh-in day. Any such arrangements must be made prior to the fair between the buyer and exhibitor. The sale committee WILL NOT facilitate this process.
At weigh-in, all animals will be designated into one of the following four categories:
Block – Animal will go to harvest (processor) following the fair
Take Home – Exhibitor retains ownership and takes the animal home
Premium Sale / Take Home – Animal participates in the premium auction and returns home with the exhibitor
Premium Sale / Block – Animal participates in the premium auction and is sent to harvest
These designations are important and will determine how each project is handled after the fair.
What this means for exhibitors:
You will still participate in the auction as scheduled
Buyers will bid to support you through premium dollars
Any animal sales must be completed prior to the fair
You will declare your animal’s category at weigh-in
Premium payments will be distributed following the auction
We strongly encourage exhibitors to communicate early with potential buyers, especially if you intend to sell your animal prior to the fair. Just as in past years, building relationships and promoting your project will play a key role in your success.
We understand this is a change from a traditional auction format, but we are confident this system will continue to highlight the hard work and dedication of our Junior Fair exhibitors while offering flexibility for both buyers and families.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the Junior Fair Board or Livestock Committee.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a successful fair.
Sincerely,
Shelby County Jr Fair Sale Committee
